Tufts University

Taken from our website, "Tufts is recognized as a premier university dedicated to educating new leaders for a changing world." Students at Tufts strive to learn how to not only identify problems in the world but how to create and implement sustainable solutions. There are more than 70 undergraduate degree programs, ranging from the social sciences to the natural sciences. Tufts is academically rigorous but also emphasizes extra curricular involvement; most Tufts students pursue independent activities and join clubs in their free time. Tufts is a medium-size university with about 5300 undergraduate students.

Tufts University community

Tufts University lies on the border of Somerville, MA and Medford, MA. Both of these towns are suburbs of the greater metropolis of Boston. Somerville and Medford are growing to be increasingly diverse areas, both homes to all different types of communities and languages spoken.

Commitment to community engagement

Tufts engages with all of its host communities (Medford, Somerville and Boston's Chinatown) especially through the Tisch Public Citizenship & Service Scholars Program. This competitive and selective program involves about 30 undergraduates. Each scholar is required to undertake one project in one of Tufts' host communities, thus fostering a positive relationship between Medford/Somerville and Tufts students.
