Soledad La Fico Guzzo // Who I Am + Why I’m Here

June 12, 2011

Hi everyone!
I´m Soledad, I´m 28 and I ´m from Argentina. I study Educational Sciences at Universidad de Buenos Aires, and I´ve been invited to Madrid as a student representative of the PIACBV, the MacJannet´s prize winner.

Why do I want to be part of this opportunity?
I think universities have a duty to bring the knowledge by them produced to the disadvantaged groups in the societies where they are insert. And as students of those universities we have the responsibility of getting involved in different civic actions that help others to get better life quality standards, but also contribute to our academic and proffesional training.
And I believe as students we have an important role to play in spreading these innitiatives, and inviting others to get involved.

“What inspires me the most about the global civic engagement movement?”
When I get older, I want to look back and see that I have done enough to change some things I don´t like in the world. Telling others about our experiences is part of thinking together new ideas. We have to innovate and think of projects and activities that help people in their lives, instead of only discussing among the walls of our classrooms. This is also our responsibility as students, as we´ve had the opportunities others haven´t.

Soledad.
